Hawkins Hill
The Hawkins Hill project evolved from small repairs, hand crafted cabinets by our very own Jock Winch Jr and turned into a full-scale, collaborative renovation. The homeowners, with Jock’s careful guidance, fully transformed this historic 1750s home. Our primary goal was to modernize and insulate the house while preserving its timeless charm. Our build team used ZIP R insulated sheathing on the wooden sections and foam insulation for the original stone and brick areas, enhancing energy efficiency. The HVAC system was upgraded to ducted mini-splits, providing efficient heating and cooling.
To honor the home’s character, we exposed the original framework and beams, adding wood paneling and shiplap throughout, with plaster finishes on gable end walls to replicate original coverings. Custom wood windows replaced older vinyl ones, restoring an authentic look. Meticulous trim work integrated doors, HVAC vents, closets, and even a built-in day bed, creating a seamless aesthetic.
Outside, we carefully repaired the exterior and added a wrap-around deck, while stabilizing the barns for storage and reviving the chicken coop. This project thoughtfully blends modern functionality with historic integrity, giving new life to an extraordinary home.
