Ghent Farmhouse
Screened Porch & Pergola addition
This project exemplifies thoughtful design and meticulous craftsmanship centered on creating a versatile and inviting outdoor space that complements both the original farmhouse and its picturesque setting. The scope included the addition of a cedar-screened porch, a pergola, and a deck to provide functionality, comfort, and charm.
The screened porch, located off the living room and kitchen, was constructed with durable cedar framing and traditional, tongue and groove douglas fir flooring. Two skylights bring in natural light, and screened doors provide easy access. The team utilized the Screen Tight system, chosen for its ease of installation and maintenance, making future screen replacements straightforward. Decorative brackets added character, further enhancing the farmhouse aesthetic.
The cedar pergola and deck extend the living space outdoors, offering additional areas for entertaining and relaxation. Cedar was chosen for its durability and timeless appeal, and as it ages, its gray blends in seamlessly with the surrounding landscape.
While the project focused on integrating these new features, challenges arose, including addressing structural issues like the lack of a foundation beneath the living room’s existing fireplace. Careful attention was also given to matching the new elements to the farmhouse style and existing structure, ensuring the additions felt like a natural extension of the home.
