It’s Gifting Season!
This holiday, we’re stepping out of the box (literally!) with gifts that aren’t things—they’re opportunities to connect & make memories at some of the Hudson Valley’s top destinations.
We asked around the office for gift ideas that celebrate experiences over products. Our team came up with 6 thoughtful ways to share the magic of our region while supporting small businesses and creating no waste.
1. For the Sophisticated one: Elegant Dinner at Wm. Farmer & Sons
Treat the foodie in your life to a refined evening at this Hudson favorite. Known for its stunning setting, perfect cocktails and farm-to-table cuisine, this experience combines impeccable flavors with the elegance of a fire lit dinner. This year, they're hosting a dazzling New Year's fête, with a four-course meal prepared by Chef Kirby Farmer making it the ideal spot to toast the brand new year!
2. For Outdoor Adventurers: Hike High Falls + CLC Donation
Give the gift of nature! Surprise Fitbit lovers with a breathtaking hike to Columbia County’s tallest waterfall, High Falls in Philmont, a trail maintained by the Columbia Land Conservancy. Pair this with a donation in their name to the CLC, ensuring these trails stay open for all to enjoy. It’s a gift that gives back—to both the recipient and the community.
3. For the Wellness Lover: R&R at Troutbeck
Indulge the wellness enthusiast with a stay at the serene Troutbeck, a 250 acre estate hotel in Amenia. Whether they enjoy a rise & shine yoga session or melt in the infrared sauna (in a good way!), this is a chance to truly unwind in a luxurious, natural setting. It’s self-care elevated. And if you want to go the extra, EXTRA mile, get them a yearly membership.
4. For Art & Architecture Buffs: Historic Home Tours
Dive into the rich history of the Hudson Valley with a guided tour of iconic landmarks like Frederic Church's Olana, the Thomas Cole Historic Site, and the Martin Van Buren Home in Kinderhook. Each site offers a unique blend of art, history, and gorgeous views—an inspiring gift for anyone with an eye for beauty and a love of storytelling. Memberships available.
5. For the Whole Family: Hot Chocolate at Cooper’s Daughter Spirits
Sure, it’s a distillery, but their Holiday Hot Chocolate is legendary, and you can enjoy it outside, by the fire. It’s a post holiday outing everyone can savor, at the Olde York Farm, in Claverack, NY. Treat the kids to a cozy mug of chocolatey goodness, while the adults enjoy a hot cocktail like Ugly Sweater Weather or a dry Morning Snow Martini. Grandpa is gonna love Santa’s Hangover!
6. For Beer Lovers: New Year’s Celebration at Roe Jan Brewing
Cheers to the beer aficionado in your life! Celebrate the new year with craft brews, live Cajun music by the Bunkhouse Boys, and a lively atmosphere at Roe Jan Brewing in Hillsdale. It’s a toast to good times and great taste! And if they’re into bar hopping, also send them to Chatham Brewing, our other favorite.
We hope this list inspires you to explore, connect and create memories that last well beyond the holiday season. Because the best things in life really aren’t things. ❤️
